Grammarly, a  computer software that aids in, guess what, grammar.  I have used Grammarly for the past two years, the software had been used to check over papers while working on my BSN, blog post, and other writings.  Everything that I write at one point or another goes through the software.

I found Grammarly when researching apps for bloggers, at the time I was in school working on my BSN.  My grammar has never been the best and my spelling, well, all I have to say is thank goodness for search engines and spell check.  I was in a class considered a writing class due to two shorter papers assigned.  The first paper I received an 87, not bad, the professor commented on the usage of my words and writing were good, the technical side of punctuation, is where I lost points. When I came across this software, I was intrigued.  I read some reviews both on their website and off their site. Their free version of the software  I wasn’t going to lose anything, and I started there.

The interface can either be used in the software or added to programs.  You can either type in the program directly or copy and paste.  It brings up spelling and simple grammar. It takes the user to each word and each section, suggesting ways to fix and improve your writing, find misspelled word or words that are overused and find more appropriate words.

The second paper in my class was edited by Grammarly and myself.  My own edits were cutting down sentences and making everything flow.  The second paper got a 97, a full grade higher.

Grammarly became my go too, as my semester came to an end, my blogging became a higher priority.  I eventually purchased a subscription to Grammarly. The paid version searches for more advanced grammar mistakes.  Writing or copy and pasting in the program will grade your paper based on the number of errors, and gives you the readability scale.  The readability scale gives you a reading level that can comprehend your passage. It will also break down unusual words used and word length.  Analysis of your writing helps out the writer when trying to better your writing or making sure it’s readable to a specific group.

Grammarly on your computer will also work when online.  Whenever the user is typing in any field online, Grammarly will give you prompts to help with spelling and sentence structure.  Emails are very useful to double check, whether it’s to inquire about a job or ask a question to your professor, that added professionalism goes a long way.  If a complex error was detected the program will allow you to view it in the Grammarly software and with ease transfer the correction without using copy and paste.

The weekly emails I personally enjoy.  The emails give the user weekly updates on word count, unique words used, most. Common mistakes, and how many weeks straight the program had been used.

The program is useful for any student or professional who finds themselves typing any documents.  The free and paid versions make it accessible to everyone. Something to check out and tried out if you do the right amount of writing.
